Stay up to date on Cancer Screening

Bowel screening

This is a national screening programme to detect bowel cancer at an early stage it is available to all women and men aged 59 to 69 every 2 years. You can register with the link below. If you have any symptoms of bowel cancer please book and appointment ASAP with us to discuss referral for a colonoscopy.

Breast Check

This involves getting a mammogram in the eligible age range of 50-69.
If you have any symptoms of breast cancer please book in with us ASAP for urgent onward referral.

Cervical screening

Women and people with a cervix between the age of 25 and 65 should go for regular cervical screening when it’s due. Please register on the below link, if you have a letter please book an appointment with us at Blackwater Medical to get your screening completed.

Prostate Screening

There is no prostate screening programme in Ireland. Men over the age of 45 can have a PSA blood and a DRE (digital rectal exam) exam both of which can help check for prostate cancer. It can be a complicated decision so is best made in discussion with us so we can go through the pros and cons of undertaking the above tests.
